Drift: to slowly move off course
What causes us to drift in our spiritual disciplines and walk with God?
We all, at times, find ourselves getting out of regular, life giving rythms - mentally, physically, schedule, etc. that can cause us to drift spiritually.
Some of the causes for drift are:
- schedule or routine change
- no change in routine leading to boredom
- tired or exhausted
.
REMEDIES
1 - TARGET/VISION
Get a solid picture of your goal. What are you aiming for? Make it clear. Find out what is to be a Biblical Man of God.
The Bible, and other resources based on it, are the best sources to start. Having a clear identity of who we are in Christ is key to overrriding false pictures and narratives from the world and culture around us. Not having a goal can often find us being mediocre. Not having a goal is also being adrift.
2 - INTENTIONALITY
Realize no one is going to do the work for you. You are the one who has to make the plan and work the plan towards the target. A passive marathon runner = spectator. Are we a consumer or a contributor? As part of God's family, have we identified our gifts and are we working to plug in as part of His Body, the Church.
3 - COMMUNITY
Progress is best done in partnership with others. Find allies who are in the battle with you, can encourage you and help you where needed.
4 - PRAYER
Pray for open doors or for the needed perseverance or motivation.
Hebrews 5:11-14 NLT
11 "We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."
QUIET TIMES

- John 13:31-38: Love one another as I have loved you
